A Guide on what to wear to your photoshoot!

• 1. To begin, choose your palette. I usually tell my clients to pick a palette based on: Your favourite colours, the season, where we’ll be shooting (indoor or outdoor) and the colours currently in your home. Think of where these images will be hung, what colours are in that room/area?
  2. Choose your tones: Warm tones, cool tones, earth tones, neutrals, pastels
  3. Stay away from neon or super bright colours. These colours have a tendency to be reflective and cause colour casts and on top of it all, printers actually can’t print their true hue most times!
  4. Feel free to mix solids with patterns, I usually recommend staying away from super busy patterns as well as huge logos if possible.
  5. Play with adding textured patterns to your outfits!
  6. Try not to have outfits that are too matchy. Once you pick a colour, coordinate the other colours and styles in your outfits together.
  7. For studio sessions, I recommend formal shoes if possible – socks or running shoes don’t always look the best in studio shots. For babies I almost always just remove socks so I can see those cute little toes instead!
  8. Accessorize! You’d be surprised how much some small accessories can add to an image! Bracelets, hats, earrings, ties and necklaces all add to a photo!
  9. Don’t be afraid to dress up in formal clothes! Getting photographs done is a special occasion, it’s a chance to have fun with your outfits and wear something different than your normal attire!

Tones based on season:

• Spring: Light, airy, pastels (think snow melting, blooms forming, flowers!)
• Summer: Bold, rich, vibrant (think sunshine, water)
• Fall: Rich autumn hues, neutrals, burgundy’s, navy blues, mustard (think leaves, golden colours, vibrant falls leaves)
• Winter: Neutrals with dark contrasting colours, creams, greys

 

Above all, always make sure you’re comfortable with your outfit. I always say, if you’re uncomfortable with what you’re wearing at all – it WILL photograph that way!
